Singularity University Announces Inaugural Canada Summit

Singularity University Announces Inaugural Canada Summit

Mountain View, CA and Toronto, Ontario, Canada (April 4, 2017) – Singularity University (“SU”) a global learning and innovation community using exponential technologies to solve the world’s biggest challenges, has today announced an annual SingularityU Canada Summit. The inaugural Summit will take place at the Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto, Ontario on October 11–12, 2017, and will be held in a different Canadian city each subsequent year.

SU was founded to inspire and educate leaders and entrepreneurs to leverage rapidly accelerating technologies such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, robotics and synthetic biology to unlock solutions that can positively impact billions of lives.

A grass roots movement of Canadian SU alumni has brought together a visionary group of founding members including BMO, CIBC, Deloitte, FairVentures, Goodmans LLP, Google, the Government of Ontario, RBC, Rogers Communications, Scotiabank, Suncor, and TD Bank Group. Together this initial group is on a mission to share SU’s exponential mindset and bold thinking with Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

“The leadership of this initial group of Founding Members demonstrates the incredible vision and commitment of public, private, and community organizations from across Canada to create a lasting impact on our country,” said Diane Francis and Terry Stuart, Singularity University Alumni and Board Advisors for SingularityU Canada Summit.

Building on recent announcements of support for innovation at all levels of government across Canada, the convening of the first SingularityU Canada Summit will amplify the energy and aspirations of Canada’s innovation ecosystem.

“Canada is at a critical junction – it has the potential to lead the world and solve the biggest challenges that are out there but risks letting other global ecosystems attract better talent and innovation,” says Salim Ismail, a serial Canadian entrepreneur and the Founding Executive Director of SU.  “By bringing the best of the world to Canada, and broadcasting Canada’s expertise back to the world, the SingularityU Canada Summits will help to drive that critical mindset shift by transforming participants’ understanding of where we’ve come from, where we’re going, and what’s possible.

The Summit program will take participants on a journey from inspiration to action by bringing together top global experts from SU with Canadian leaders from across business, technology, and government. The SingularityU Canada Summit will feature groundbreaking sessions on the future of energy, mobility, healthcare and finance and explore how technologies like artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and digital medicine will impact the way we live and work. “Canada has a unique opportunity to play a vital role in shaping an abundant future for all. Our ability to leverage and develop accelerating technologies over the next decade will have a profound impact on our growth and economic health over the next century,” said Oren Berkovich, CEO of SingularityU Canada Summit. “We are on a mission to inspire and enable leaders and entrepreneurs from across the country to change the future of Canada by solving some of the world’s biggest problems.”

In keeping with its mission to inspire and enable all Canadians to create global impact, SingularityU Canada Summit is working closely with innovation hubs, academic institutions, and NGOs across the country – to amplify and grow Canada’s innovation ecosystems.
