Edmonton’s already thriving technology sector received a boost Wednesday when Alberta’s capital was named host of one of the country’s top tech summits.

Artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, biotechnology and digital medicine will be the focus of two days of talks and workshops next April 23-24 at the SingularityU Canada Summit.

The annual event draws some of the brightest minds in the country’s tech ecosystem, along with sector workers and innovators from across the globe.

Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson whooped with a cheer at the news conference Wednesday, calling it a “phenomenal opportunity” for the city to promote its world-leading tech sector.
